Progressive Democrats of Orange County - CA 48th Endorses Steve Young

March 4, 2008

On February 28, 2008, Progressive Democrats of Orange County - 48th Congressional District met and overwhelmingly endorsed Steve Young. Steve's district includes the Orange County cities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Capistrano Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Newport Beach, Tustin and portions of Santa Ana and San Juan Capistrano.

At Thursday's meeting, Steve's thoughtful answers to questions on our energy future, universal health care, education, and ending the almost five year occupation of Iraq solidly position him as a progressive voice in Congress.

Steve is running unopposed in the June 3 primary. This allows the campaign to focus all its time, energy and resources on winning the November general election. Since the special election in 2005, grassroots organizing has placed one hundred and fifty precinct captains in the district. This neighbor-to-neighbor outreach is credited for giving Steve a twelve percentage point gain in the 2006 Election over the 2005 Special Election. With PDA on board, the campaign is working to ensure that 2008 will be the year that Steve Young goes to Congress.

“This endorsement is especially exciting coming from both the local and the national level of Progressive Democrats,” Young said. “I was the first congressional candidate to be endorsed by PDA in October of 2005. That was before there were PDA chapters all across America. Together since then, both PDA and my campaign has grown and matured,” he concluded.
