Pinellas County Florida PDA Endorses Samm Simpson

January 5, 2008

In 2006 her totally grassroots, all-volunteer campaign became the first in the history of the county to get a Federal Candidate on the ballot via petitions signed by the people, and she gave her opponent, Bill Young (the longest tenured Republican in the House, and Bush rubber stamp), the biggest challenge he'd seen since `92.

She's Samm Simpson, she's back for round 2 vs Young, in a better position than she was last time around, and she's proud to have the PDA endorsement.

With years of experience in front of cameras and microphones as a TV documentary producer, on-air talent and radio announcer/dj, the camera loves her, and her speeches are filled with such populist zeal and energy that she often gets standing ovations. (See some compelling media and her active blog at http://www.sammsimpsonforcongress.com).

She's pro-peace, pro-alternative energy, pro-single payer healthcare, pro-labor, pro-balanced budgets, and pro impeachment AND prosecution for those potentially guilty of war crimes and other high crimes and misdemeanors. (She received the endorsement from Impeach Pac last time around.)

This single mom and grandmother was also a vice president of marketing for a financial services firm and understands the complexities of ensuring living wages for American workers in a global economy.

As the housing bubble bursts and her region sees some of the highest foreclosure rates in the country, lines outside of the day-labor establishments, and more and more homeless people on the streets of her district, Samm is ready to do the hard work needed to bring peace and prosperity back to all of her constituents.

A long-time activist for peace and social justice, Samm ran the first time for the most important reason of all: not to be a career politician, rather to do what she could as a citizen patriot to try to save her country.

If she defeats her opponent, it will be a shot heard round the world. While FL-10 is a purple district (Kerry lost by just a couple of percentage points in '04, but Gore took it in 2000), it's been considered safe ground for her Republican opponent for years, yet Samm was able to energize voters across the spectrum. A perfect example: at one sign-waving event in '06 she had Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, and NPA (no party affiliation) volunteers all supporting her.

With that kind of multi-party grassroots support, she has a legitimate chance to bring down a GOP icon.

And the odds of that happening are only increased with the backing of PDA.

Review Samm's responses to the PDA endorsement questionnaire.
