PDA Candidate John Hall Mounts Largest G.O.T.V. Drive In History of NY 19th District

November 4, 2006, Beacon, NY

PDA endorsed candidate John Hall continues to raise issues that resonate with New Yorkers and the progressive community. John's principled stand to end the war, provide universal healthcare, stop deficit spending, and promote alternative energy is gaining support from a wide spectrum of civic, environmental, labor, and political, activists. This weekend the Hall campaign will launch the largest Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) effort in the history of the 19th Congressional District.

With over 1,300 volunteers—one thousand of whom will be canvassing and calling voters on Tuesday—the Hall campaign has already reached 120,000 voters by in-person phone calls, and 10,000 more by door-to-door visits.

Between Saturday morning and Monday evening, “we expect to reach out to 75,000 voters by phone,” said Amy Little, Hall’s campaign manager. “On Tuesday, we will speak to 100,000 more.”

Little said that some 16,000 voters will have been spoken to through home visits this weekend. On Election Day, Hall’s canvassers “will be in every neighborhood and precinct in the district.

“This has been a grassroots effort from Day One,” said Little. “It remains one of the best grassroots campaigns—if not the best—in the country.”

Little said that “election protection” is a concern of the campaign. “We want to make certain that every voter gets a ballot,” she said, “and that every vote is counted.” Some 200 attorneys have volunteered to be poll watchers on Tuesday.

Independently of the Hall campaign, 19th District union members—teachers, healthcare workers, teamsters, communications workers and electricians —have reportedly spoken to an estimated 150,000 of their co-workers to vote for John Hall on Tuesday.
