Former Mayor Rocky Anderson to Speak to International Human Rights Funders Group, July 21, 2008

July 21, 2008, New York, NY

Anderson's presentation outlines Climate Change as a Critical Human Rights Imperative.

Former Salt Lake City mayor and PDA Advisroy Board member Rocky Anderson will deliver a presentation at a conference of the International Human Rights Funders Group. The presentation, "Combating Climate Change: A Human Rights Imperative," answers the questions: Is climate change a human rights issue? Does the consideration of climate change as a human rights issue alter anything in terms of our approach to combating climate change? And are there any benefits from dealing with climate change in a human rights framework?

"When one considers the well-established fundamental human rights to which there is now almost universal agreement, one must wonder why the consideration of climate change in a human rights context has taken so long, particularly since the application of human rights principles will aid significantly in combating climate change," says Anderson.

Anderson will highlight the efforts of High Road for Human Rights and their efforts to educate and advocate the grassroots, and force Congress to adopt a comprehensive set of environmental initiatives to improve sustainability, conservation, and reduction of greenhouse gases.

Anderson's address will take place on July 21st, 2008, 10:00am at the NYU School of Law, Lipton Hall 108 West Third Street.
