Wexler Co-Sponsors Bush Impeachment Articles

June 11, 2008, Washington, DC

Yesterday, Congressman Robert Wexler, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, became the second sponsor of the Articles of Impeachment against President Bush introduced By Rep. Dennis Kucinich. In a letter to his supporters, Wexler stated, "I enthusiastically co-sponsored this vitally important bill." He added, "The Articles present a stunning narrative of offenses that have gone well beyond previous crimes committed by any US chief executive.  In fact no President or Vice President in history has done more to undermine our constitution."

Invoking the privileged resolution maneuver he used to being Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Cheney, Kucinich introduced the resolution against Bush on June 9, forcing Congress to act as early as today.

Unless our representatives hear a mighty roar from their constituents, the resolution is destined for the Judiciary Committee where it will likely linger with the earlier resolution to impeach Cheney. Send an email to your member of Congress, or call the Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121 to have your voice heard.

In addition to this news, Wexler announced that former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan will testify before the House Judiciary Committee on June 20 at 10:00 AM (EDT). Mr. McClellan played a major role in the Valerie Plame/CIA scandal, and was a leading propagandist for the administration's deliberate attempts to hide the true costs of this war from the American public.  Mr. McClellan who will testify under oath--and be subject to perjury charges should he lie--will be questioned on the following:

Other former White House officials have received subpoenas to testify, but have so far refused to appear. They are Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, Joshua Bolten, and David Addington. Wexler has requested that these "renegade officials" be held in contempt of Congress and that the House Sargeant of Arms require them to appear.
