Inside/Outside Update
PDA Staff Report
January 10th, 2006

The Inside/Outside Update is a PDA staff report to our supporters. We will send this every Tuesday. We want to make sure our grassroots supporters know what we, at the staff level, are doing each week. If you find this information useful, please consider making a small donation.

In This Issue:

  1. Another Successful PDA Action Day
  2. PDA Volunteer Job Board Now Online
  3. PDA Ally "CodePink" Launched "Women Say No to War" Campaign

Another Successful PDA Action Day

Yesterday over 10,000 activists took part in the National Call-in Day supporting Rep. Conyers' censure bills. We want to thank each one of you for taking the time to make your calls. If you have not had a chance to call, please consider doing so this week. When news broke that Conyers put forth the censure bills, our action alert asking PDA members to email their Congress member yielded over 52,012 emails. We know making calls is more time consuming; however, they are also more effective. If you are one of the 50,000+ activists who took part in the email action, please take five minutes today and call. Your voice can make the difference!

PDA Job Board Now Online

Many volunteers are asking, how they can help the National Staff do the "day-to-day stuff" to help keep PDA moving forward. We now have an online job board where you can find a volunteer job that meets your skill sets. Currently, there are only a couple of jobs posted. However, later this month we plan to add a comprehensive list of jobs. So stay tuned to the job board. It is volunteer passion and sweat equity that keep PDA moving forward. It always has been, and will always be, a volunteer grassroots organization. Click here to review the job board.

PDA Ally "CodePink" Launched "Women Say No to War" Campaign

We support our friends and allies at CodePink who have launched a new campaign called "Women Say No to War" to bring together US women like Alice Walker, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Susan Sarandon, Cindy Sheehan, and Dolores Huerta with women from countries such as Britain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, Jordan, Iran, and especially Iraq. Their purpose? To tell our leaders - and the world - that women have had enough of the senseless war in Iraq and they want the foreign troops and foreign fighters to leave Iraq now.

So far, more than 200 prominent women - political leaders, military mothers, veterans, actors, and authors - have endorsed the "Women Say No to War" campaign, and some 4,000 women have signed the Women's Call for Peace - even before they have officially launched! They want to get at least 100,000 women from around the world to sign this global call by March 8, 2006, when they will deliver the signatures to the White House and to US embassies around the world.

This effort could be truly historic but to succeed, they need your help:

Please sign the call today.

Then forward the call to everyone you can think of in every country on the globe.

Help organize a local Women Say No to War event on March 8 or join them in Washington DC.

Mark your calendars for Mother's Day, when they will launch a vigil outside the White House to keep the momentum going to stop the war in 2006.

Eve Ensler, Margaret Cho, Anne Lamott, Maxine Hong Kingston, Barbara Ehrenreich, Congresswomen Lynn Woolsey and Cynthia McKinney, Iraqi women's rights advocate Yanar Mohammed, Iraq War Veteran Kelly Dougherty - these are just a sampling of the amazing women who have signed this Urgent Appeal. Please join them - and us - in sending a powerful message that women worldwide have said "Enough!"
