November 15th, 2005

The Inside/Outside Update is a PDA staff report to our supporters. We will send this every Tuesday. We want to make sure our grassroots supporters know what we, at the staff level, are doing each week. If you find this information useful, please consider making a small donation.

In This Issue:

  1. PDA Staff in D.C. This Week
  2. "Welcome to the Revolution" PDA Reception at DNC Meeting
  3. Peace Mobilization Efforts
  4. Keep the Pressure on Congress
  5. One Reason Why PDA Organizes by Congressional Districts

PDA Staff in D.C. This Week

Both Tim Carpenter and Kevin Spidel will be joining Advisory Board Chair Mimi Kennedy in Washington D.C. this week to launch your National Advisory Board. We are honored to have this incredible group working with us daily to advise the staff and respond to grassroot initiatives. Please take a moment to review our new board members: http://pdamerica.org/about/board.php

We also plan to have several meetings on Capitol Hill with our allies. Your continued efforts in lobbying members of Congress on progressive issues have led to fruitful relationships with key allies to our cause. Next week, we hope to have a detailed report back to you.

"Welcome to the Revolution" PDA Reception at DNC Meeting

PDA will be hosting a public reception for folks from the progressive community to meet and greet attendees of the Young Democrats of America (YDA) conference and the Winter Democratic National Committee (DNC) meeting on December 1. Our gathering will be fun, energetic, and a reminder to those in attendance at both meetings, that the progressive community is organized and building within the party. We will showcase progressive issues during the evening and provide an opportunity to network with DNC members.

In attendance will be some notable progressive leaders from the southwest and nationwide. Rep. Lynn Woolsey and Rep. Barbara Lee are clearing their schedules to try to make the event as well.

One Reason Why PDA Organizes by Congressional Districts

PDA is NOT a click and join organization. We are about heat in the streets as well as in the suites of Congress. The following note was written by one of our volunteers/activists who saw a blog post that illustrated exactly why PDA exists.

If You're Still Asking, "What Can I Do?"
By Rita A. Weinstein of WA

Can you believe it? The following is a list of 70 congressional districts where Republicans are running unopposed.

It's possible that in some of these districts, Democrats have stood up as candidates since the list was created, but this is what PDA is all about. Where Republicans are unopposed, democracy is critically endangered. If you live in one of these districts, you, too, can be an American hero. You owe it to yourself and to our nation's future either to become a candidate or to help identify someone willing to run. If a Democrat has declared their candidacy since this list was created, now is the time find out who your candidate is and acquaint that person with your PDA chapter.

Want to take our country back? This is how we do it. This is where it starts. If you're not sure which district is yours, you can find out at http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials/
